The Role
The Extraction Technician assists with production of high‑quality cannabis extracts. They will focus on assisting with the development, implementation, and optimization of cannabis extraction processes and production of cannabis concentrates for various downstream applications. They will also be responsible for documenting activities in accordance with SOPs and communicating information to share department knowledge throughout the organization. The Extraction Technician should be ambitious, have a professional disposition, and be committed to continuous learning and improvement.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the Extraction and Oil Supervisor and Head of Research and Product Development on CO2 extraction and downstream processing.
- Assist with setup, implementation, and optimization of extract derivative processing. Including filtration, solvent recovery, distillation.
- Follow SOPs and formulae in preparing cannabis extracts and concentrates.
- Operate, clean, and maintain extraction, filtration, and distillation equipment.
- Maintain inventory records, document equipment maintenance, and manage consumables.
- Keep up to date with relevant developments as they pertain to the cannabis extraction and extract processing or formulation.
- Knowledge of GPP and Cannabis Act is essential.
- Communicate results to both technical and non-technical personnel.
- Make sure all operations meet the necessary technical, facility, and safety requirements.
- Have a collaborative attitude, and the ability to perform within cross-functional team environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or similar education is required.
- Preference will be given to candidates with related working experience. Including experience with CO2 extraction, rotary evaporation, molecular distillation equipment, and experience in a laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of proper handling and disposal of harmful chemicals, substances and wastes.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Health Canada Security Clearance.
- Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
- Highly detail-oriented, adaptable, and task-oriented.
- Strong reading, writing, math, and computer skills. Proficiency in MS Office required.
- Ability to carry out routine tasks with a consistent attention to detail.
